Wada Kolam Rice 

Geographical Identification (GI Tag):

In October 2021, ‘Wada Kolam’ rice grown in Wada taluka of Palghar district has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. This has given this rice a distinct identity and its demand is increasing in the domestic and international markets.

Features:

 * Origin and Cultivation: This rice has been cultivated exclusively in Wada taluka for hundreds of years. It has evolved from the traditional varieties of rice called ‘Jini’ or ‘Surat’.

 * Quality: Wada Kolam rice is known for its distinctive taste, aroma, softness and lightness. It is easy to digest and contains a lot of starch, vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates.

 * Appearance: This rice has medium grain and slightly off-white color. When cooked, it becomes soft and tasty, and it absorbs sauce, gravy or gravy quickly.

 * Nutritional value: According to health experts, this rice is important as a nutritious food.

With the GI tag, it will no longer be possible to imitate this rice and the identity of the original Wada Kolam will remain intact.
